Dr. Erik Rosseland, D.C. · 12 August 2017 · 2 min read

Do stiff, sore joints make it hard to get moving? This article explains what arthritis is and how chiropractic care may fit into managing it. It also covers some of the options Dr. Rosseland may talk through with you.

What arthritis is

Arthritis is inflammation in the joints. It can cause joint pain, stiffness and limited movement. There are many types.

Arthritis is often linked with age, but young people can get it too. Some forms can also affect other parts of the body. These include organs such as the heart and lungs.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type. It is also called degenerative joint disease. It is linked to wear on the joint over time, and it becomes more common with age.

How chiropractic care may fit in

Chiropractic care may help some people with arthritis manage pain and stiffness. It is one part of their overall care. Never stop or change a medication without talking to the doctor who prescribed it.

Depending on your evaluation, Dr. Rosseland may:

  • Suggest exercises for flexibility and endurance
  • Recommend strengthening exercises

Dr. Rosseland can also recommend an exercise routine suited to arthritis. The American Chiropractic Association describes exercise as an important part of managing arthritis symptoms.

Care aimed at the symptoms

There is no cure for arthritis. Care aimed at the symptoms may help some patients stay more comfortable and active.

Along with spinal adjustments, Dr. Rosseland may use other treatments. These can include:

  • Heat and ice
  • Ultrasound
  • Hands-on soft tissue work
  • Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS)

Results vary from person to person. The right mix depends on your evaluation.

If arthritis pain and stiffness keep getting in your way, Dr. Rosseland can take a careful look at what is going on. Call (520) 444-1937 or request an appointment online. Same-day appointments are available when there is an opening.
